Question…
I have had porcelain crowns for 30 years and they appear yellow now. Can I lighten them?
I would like to try and whiten them without having them all redone. They cover the front of my mouth (6 top and 6 bottom) and the expense to re-do all of them is out of the question.

There is no way to lighten porcelain. Unfortunately, the only way to get them any lighter is going to be to replace them which is very expensive like you already mentioned in your question.

No unfortunately not although it could be surface staining as porcelain should not absorb stains. Try a scale and polish from a hygienist and speak to your dentist.

I’ve got a crown on my front tooth. I asked the dentist about that same thing– that it looked a little yellow. They can polish/scale it down which means they’re stripping away a layer to get down to a whiter part. It’s not perfect though. And unfortuneately, you can’t use those whiteners on porcelain either. If they’re really bad, you may have to replace them because even if they scale it down, it’d be easier to match other teeth with new crowns.
