Whitening Porcelain Crowns

in Porcelain Veneers

Question…

Will whitening strips work on porcelain crowns?

No. You have to whiten your teeth prior to getting the crown, then match the crown color to your whitened teeth. I think your dentist might be able to bleach the crown but I am not sure.

No. Whatever you do, porcelain can not be bleached to lighten its shade. If all your teeth are crowned then to make their shade lighter, you have to replace them and get lighter colored ones. Now, if you have some uncrowned teeth and crowned teeth side by side, get your teeth whitened first, wait for the color to stabilize, and then get new crowns.

Hi,
You have had three good answers to your question.
I will add mine.
The bleaching agent is carbamide peroxide, and it is not an acid, so it will not deteriorate the porcelain in your porcelain crowns, but it will not make them any whiter.
The crown would have to be removed and remade with the lighter shade.
The best way is to get your bleaching done and after achieving the final shade, wait a week for the color to stabilize, then take the shade for the porcelain crown.
Hope this helps.
