Hi Lauren,

My daughter fractured her tooth right up into the root plus knocked another tooth out completely, she fell on a slide. She had a root canal, the tooth packed and built up then left for 6 months to allow it to heal. It was amazing how they made her teeth look as good as new.

It sounds like the nerve was damaged and this would require a root canal to be done. The a build up, possibly with a post, is placed on the tooth. Then a porcelain crown is constructed to look exactly like her other matching front tooth. Good luck to her.

Inside each tooth is the pulp (nerve), which provides nutrients to the tooth. When the pulp is diseased or injured, the pulp tissue deteriorates. If you don’t remove the compromised tissue, the tooth may become infected and you could lose it. After the dentist carefully removes the pulp, the root canal is cleaned and sealed off to protect it.
Most of the time, a root canal is a relatively simple procedure, with little or no discomfort, involving one or more visits. Best of all, it can save your tooth and your smile.
I had one root canal therapy done with my dentist at Studio City Dental Group and it wasn’t so scary
